E-mail
Email Virus Protection
SMI is scanning incoming and outgoing email for
viruses using Vircom ModusMail. The
anti-virus component of our mail server software is based on the Norman
Data Defense engine. Infected mail is cleaned on our server and a message is sent to the sender and
recipient warning them about the virus. The virus signatures are updated
daily but SMI cannot guarantee the solution will be 100% effective.
Customers should have virus protection installed on their own computers to
protect themselves against infection from email and other potential virus
sources.
Anti-Spam Protection
Our servers are configured to use a variety of methods
to reduce the amount of unsolicited commercial e-mail (UCE), otherwise
known as spam.
Web-based Mail
You can access you POP3 e-mail account through a web browser such as Microsoft
Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator/Navigator. The webmail system address is webmail.corridor.net where you will be prompted for
your e-mail address and password. Some of the ways you might find the webmail system to be
useful are checking e-mail while away from home or office, and deleting unnecessary mail
from server.
The webmail system is not intended as a long term storage location for
client mail. SMI is not responsible for any data or message loss due to regular system
maintenance or any other circumstance.
POP3 E-mail Accounts
All of our packages include at least one e-mail account. Additional accounts are
available at the nominal charge of $1 per month.
POP3 accounts for customers who have their Internet access with a different
provider are available: $20 for six months and $36 for an entire year.
Email addresses are available at any of the following domains or your own domain hosted on our service.
E-mail Forwarding
Our access customers can choose to have their e-mail forwarded to another
Internet address at no charge.
E-mail forwarding is available to customers without SMI access at the rate of $11
for six months and $20 for an entire year.
SMI will gladly offer e-mail forwarding to former customers with no hassles.
No one should lose their e-mail just because they have a new provider, either locally or
out of town.
List Server
A list server is a convenient way to exchange e-mail with a large group of
people. E-mail sent to the list server is delivered to all the members of the list. The
list can be moderated, if desired.
In most cases, SMI will host a list server at one of our domains or the
customer's domain for $10 per month.
